Mike McDaniel explains why he thinks the defense will be better
The Miami Dolphins defense must be better for the team to make a Super Bowl run. Head coach Mike McDaniel recently said why he believes the defense will be improved next season. The Dolphins made the Wils Card round after giving up the 17th most yards in the regular season. They gave up the 24th most points per game (23.5) in 2022.
The Dolphins invested in the defense last season by trading for Bradley Chubb. They hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator in February. The Dolphins recently made a major trade for the secondary when they were able to bring in Jalen Ramsey. According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, McDaniel explained why he thinks Ramsey will make the defense better:
“I think that Jalen, adding him to any defense makes them substantially better,” McDaniel told Pelissero. “But in our particular situation with our, specifically, our starting corner on the other side, you very rarely have an opportunity to put forth two guys of the same caliber like that and so that was pretty much the reaction, ‘Wow, that would be awesome, (general manager) Chris (Grier), please get it done.’ You know, one of those.”
The Dolphins gave up 34 points to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round in January. One wonders if Ramsey could have made the difference in the game decided by three points.
