Former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Troy Aikman has come out in support of Mike McCarthy to continue coaching the team for another year. McCarthy’s resume is under scrutiny after the Cowboys have failed to impress widely in their recent performances. Currently, the Dallas Cowboys are ranked no. 3 in the NFC East with five wins and eight defeats so far.
Despite plenty of rumors stating that McCarthy will soon leave the Cowboys, Aikman dismissed these in a recent discussion. On Monday, Aikman shed some more light on the topic, mentioning that there is literally no better candidate for the job than McCarthy himself, with the exception of Bill Belichick.
“Short of Bill Belichick, I don’t know who you’re going to bring in that has a better resume… I sense that it’s a team that really believes in Mike McCarthy. I feel the locker room wants him back. I think he’s a really good football coach. I believe Jerry Jones thinks he’s a really good football coach, too.” Aikman remarked on 105.3 The Fan.
Despite the Cowboys struggling slightly this season, Mike McCarthy is still the go-to person for numerous players on the squad. On Saturday, linebacker Micah Parsons came out to appreciate the strong relationship that he and coach, McCarthy share.
Dak Prescott Wants Mike McCarthy To Continue As Coach
On another note, Dak Prescott, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is eager for head coach, Mike McCarthy to continue his stint in the team. Last Tuesday, Prescott spoke to Yahoo Sports on a Zoom call and stated that he wants to support McCarthy ‘to every extent’ that he can. In his tenure with the Cowboys, which has been a long one, Prescott played under two coaches.
Prescott gelled well with coaches, performing impressively under Jason Garrett and flourishing even now under Mike McCarthy. In this NFL season, the quarterback has covered 1,978 yards in total, scoring 11 touchdowns, along with eight interceptions, much to the awe of his coach.
The QB has been quite vocal about the love and respect he has for his coach, Mike McCarthy, and strongly believes that he needs a good opportunity to prove his mettle in his own way. Under McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys have made it to the playoffs, with Prescott being injured for a large part of the season.
