On Saturday, Michigan welcomed the 11th-ranked team in the country, USC, and pulled off a major 27-24 win. Many were choosing the Wolverines to lose in a big-time way, but the defending champions shocked the world.
Michigan Has A Major Flaw
The Wolverines made a quarterback change this week, benching starter Davis Warren for Alex Orji, and they have two different play styles.
Warren is a pocket-passing quarterback, while Orji is more of a runner, and on Saturday, the new starting quarterback had a rough day throwing the football.
Orji threw for 32 yards on seven completions and looked rough all day long, throwing from the pocket. The reason why Orji didn’t get the starting job this fall was because he can’t throw the ball and it showed big time this week
Even though Michigan won, they will have a major quarterback issue this season, and they won’t be able to win games in the future with only throwing for 32 yards.
The Wolverines will need to figure out other ways to move the ball in the air, maybe with more quick game action, to get their playmakers the ball and let them try to get down the field. But letting Orji sit back and throw isn’t going to work.
It was awesome to see Michigan get the win and show USC what Big Ten football is all about, but the passing game will be a concern all season.
The good news is that the Wolverines have a great defense, and it will keep them in every game. However, if the offense plays like it did against USC, it will not have a chance against Oregon or Ohio State.
