One of the most electrifying players to ever play football, former NFL superstar quarterback Michael Vick is beginning a new chapter in his career in the sport, as he’s now the head coach of the Norfolk State Spartans. The four-time Pro Bowler was officially named the head coach of the program last December.
There is much excitement surrounding Vick’s college coaching career, with Norfolk State adding to the hype on Saturday with a four-word post on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter).
“The man in charge 💪💯,” read the caption of the Spartans’ post that included a pair of Vick’s photos doing work as the team’s coach.
Before accepting the job at Norfolk State, Vick, who is now 44 years old, had never coached at the college level.
But the Spartans clearly trust the former Virginia Tech Hokies star to help turn things around following a dismal 4-8 campaign. Norfolk State parted ways with Dawson Odums back in November before handing Vick the keys to coach the Spartans.
“I am blessed and humbled by this opportunity to lead, mentor and transform the football program at Norfolk State University,” Vick shared in a statement after getting hired by Norfolk State, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
Fans react to Norfolk State’s Michael Vick post

The Spartans’ social media post about Vick has created some buzz, with many fans reacting to it.
“Michael Vick looking sharp, poised and ready wearing Spartan Green and Gold,” one said.
“Best of luck to you Coach Vick! 🎉,” wrote a fan.
“He always looked so good in green,” commented another social media user.
Via a different commenter: “Go get ‘em, Coach Vick. Here’s hoping @NorfolkStateFB has a great season.”
From another X user: “Witnessing The Shift In Coaching Is Amazing… We Know What’s Next 👀”
