Micah Parsons Lands in Green Bay as Packers Coaches Greet Star Pass Rusher on Tarmac

On August 30, former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons touched down in Green Bay. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington happily greeted him on the tarmac.

Parsons and his family arrived in a private jet, stepping into Wisconsin with a fresh start (and might we say, a record-breaking deal). The Packers sent Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to Dallas to seal the trade. The 26-year-old is set to sign a four-year, $188M deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move reshapes Green Bay’s Week 1 game plan against the NFC North champ Detroit Lions.

The four-time Pro Bowler joins rare company, matching the legendary Reggie White as the only players since 1982 to notch at least 12 sacks in each of their first four seasons. His 18 multi-sack games trail only White’s 23 all-time. The Packers know the legacy: White put up 68.5 sacks in six seasons after leaving Philly for Green Bay in 1993.

For Dallas, the sting will be immediate. The Cowboys face Parsons and the Packers in prime time on Sept. 28, a showdown owner Jerry Jones might’ve already circled. Big D now holds extra draft capital. While matching the star linebacker’s impact will be tough, Jones believes it’s for the “better”.

On Thursday, Jerry Jones opened up about the Micah Parsons trade. Speaking to reporters with CEO Stephen Jones by his side, he defended the move, saying that it improves both the present and future of the franchise.

This gives us a chance to be a better team than we’ve had the last several years,” Jones said. “We did think it was in the best interest of our organization, not only the future, but right now in this season as well.”

As mentioned earlier, Dallas received DT Kenny Clark and two first-round picks in exchange for Parsons. Jones alluded to Clark’s impact, citing years of defensive struggles.

We’ve gained a Pro Bowl player in an area that we had big concerns in — in the inside of our defense. The facts are we need to stop the run. We haven’t been able to stop the run for several years.”

The Cowboys will face Parsons and the Packers in a primetime matchup on Sept. 28.
