The Miami Hurricanes’ biggest weakness on defense is at linebacker, as David Lake of 247 Sports gave them a C+, the lowest grade of all positions on the team. The position weakened after Francisco Mauigoa declared for the 2025 NFL Draft and was selected by the New York Jets in the fifth round. Because the Hurricanes lack a clear-cut replacement for Mauigoa, they need to add a high-quality linebacker in the spring portal.
Miami Hurricanes secure standout linebacker for 2025

According to Hayes Fawcett, the Hurricanes landed former Rutgers Scarlet Knights senior Mohamed Toure from the transfer portal for the 2025 season. Because he missed two seasons with injuries and was granted a medical redshirt twice, Toure enters his seventh year in college football. This will be his final year of eligibility.

He had a breakout 2023 season

Mohamed Toure had a breakout 2023 campaign, boasting career highs in tackles and TFLs and tying his personal best in sacks. Toure recorded 93 tackles, ten TFLs, 4.5 sacks, one interception, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble in 13 games. He also posted 25 pressures, 36 stops, allowed 195 passing yards, and had a 78.4 overall PFF grade.
Toure missed the entire 2024 season because of an ACL tear, the second ACL tear in his college career. He previously missed the 2022 season with the same injury.
