The 3rd-ranked Miami Hurricanes traveled to Doak S. Campbell Stadium to play against the 18th-ranked Florida State Seminoles, winning 28-22 and soaring to 5-0. Carson Beck and the Hurricanes’ receiving corps dominated the 40th-ranked passing defense in the nation. Beck completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 241 yards and four touchdowns.

Highlighting one of the biggest stars of the game was a player who should be in high school.

Malachi Toney dominated the Seminoles’ secondary, leading the team with seven receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his elite speed, route-running ability, and explosiveness after the catch. His first touchdown occurred on a 44-yard flea-flicker, where he caught a deep ball, got past the defender, and sprinted into the end zone. On Toney’s second touchdown, he displayed his dangerous after-the-catch ability by turning a four-yard pass into a 40-yard house call, thanks to a nasty juke to evade a defender.

The craziest part is that, technically, he should not be playing at this level yet.

Miami Hurricanes’ star should be in high school (technically)

Malachi Toney should technically still be a senior at American Heritage High School. However, due to his elite ability as a receiver, he reclassified into the 2025 recruiting class as a three-star recruit, rather than the 2026 class. So far this season, Toney has hauled in 29 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns across five games.
Hurricanes fans are excited and lucky to have him on the team for the next three years, where he has a real chance to develop into the next great wide receiver and first-round pick.

Play was called back but Malachi Toney is possibly a generational player.

This guy is 17 years old and reclassified to play this season. Give this kid 3 more seasons and watch out.

    Tremendous athleticism.
