The Miami Hurricanes narrowly missed their first-ever College Football Playoff berth, finishing 14th in the final CFP regular season standings. Although they missed the 12-team playoff field, Mimai posted their second double-digit winning season since their Big East days, scoring an FBS-best 44.2 points per game. Led by Heisman Trophy Award finalist quarterback Cam Ward, Miami housed one of the best passing attacks in the nation. However, alongside Ward leaving for the 2025 NFL Draft, the Hurricanes also lost one of their top offensive playmakers to the transfer portal on Monday.
Isaiah Horton, the third leading receiver for the Miami Hurricanes this season, will depart the ACC program after three years with the program. Following his transfer portal entry, the Alabama Crimson Tide became a front-runner to land the speedy wideout. With Horton looking to be destined for Alabama shortly after his portal entry, fans quickly jumped on social media in frustration.
Miami Hurricanes Fans Irate With Transfer Portal WR
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3:
Breaking: Miami WR Isaiah Horton has signed the papers necessary to enter the Transfer Portal, he tells @on3sports.
The 6’4 205 WR totaled 56 Receptions for 616 Yards & 5 TDs this season.
Will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.
A year after housing one of the best offenses in ACC history, the Miami Hurricanes will lose a bevy of talent, headlined by quarterback Cam Ward and receivers Xavier Restrepo and Isaiah Horton. While the first two will head to the 2025 NFL Draft, Horton will enter the transfer portal. Horton, a four-star recruit in the 2022 class, picked Miami over Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Oregon, and Mississippi State, among others.
Horton played sparingly across his first two seasons, recording 14 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown. However, he stepped into a more significant role this year, collecting 56 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. He had an eight-catch, 108-yard performance in a win against South Florida earlier in the season. With Horton entering the transfer portal on Monday, reports surfaced that the Alabama Crimson Tide will make a move for the wideout, angering Miami football fans:

Look, not gonna overpay to stay but it is a disturbing trend of Bama and UGA missing on WR high school targets and then coming a plucking the WR we developed.

Seems there were some previous discussions before he entered portal. No way it would have been done that fast.
