Even when there’s good being done, there’s controversy. Annah Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s wife, recently found herself caught in a social media crossfire after posting a pro-Trump social media post. The controversy started when Annah posted to her Instagram stories a message from conservative influencer Benny Johnson that praised former President Donald Trump for pitching in to help Florida linemen by providing free accommodations at Trump National Doral before Hurricane Milton.

Annah’s Instagram story sparked backlash for seemingly praising Trump for his efforts after the hurricane. Some promptly criticized her for supporting Trump, and a few showed their displeasure on Twitter. The couple was insulted, with some going as far as to insult Tua himself about his past concussions and making derogatory comments about the man. Annah appeared to have backed Trump, who remains a polarising figure in American politics, and the harsh criticism seemed to come from the opposition. Of course, they won’t acknowledge that Trump’s, who’s not in office, Go-Fund-Me account has raised over $7 million for hurricane relief.
When did we become such a sensitive society that we attack someone for acknowledging good deeds, regardless of political affiliation? Here, Trump’s act of kindness by housing 275 linemen who were working to restore power in hurricane damaged places, was a wholesome thing to do. Why don’t we focus on the positive impact this move would bring to the people, instead of taking someone down because of political differences?

But not everyone was against Annah’s post. She was defended by many who praised her for acknowledging the former president’s service during a trying period for Florida residents. Another said supporting Trump doesn’t mean they support all of his policies and noted that she’s ‘based.’
A bigger question arises from this situation, how does society react to other political views? People will always disagree, but it’s important to remember that the simple act of acknowledging good even from someone you might not like, doesn’t deserve outrage. The politics don’t matter—it’s all about the action.
