The Miami Dolphins are quickly losing ground on the final spot in the AFC Wild Card race. Last Sunday, despite the return of star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and closing as a 4.5-point favorite against the Arizona Cardinals, Miami fell in walk-off fashion, 28-27, pushing their season record to 2-5. In the loss, the Dolphins held a 13-7 halftime lead and a 20-10 third-quarter lead but failed to finish off a feisty Cardinals team that beat the 4-3 Los Angeles Chargers the week prior. In the loss against Arizona, Tagovailoa played well, going 28-of-38 for 234 yards and one touchdown against no picks, a vast improvement from his fill-ins from the last four and a half games.
However, Tagovailoa fumbled thrice in the one-point defeat, including one out of bounds, resulting in a safety. On Wednesday, In preparation for their weekend tilt at the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa spoke on the play that led to a safety in last Sunday’s defeat, speaking on the difficulty of catching a high and unwarranted snap from the center. Miami Dolphins center Aaron Brewer shotgun snapped the football high to a slightly unaware Tagovailoa midway through the third quarter, with the ladder eventually knocking it out of the endzone for safety. Fans took exception to Tagovailoa’s remarks on Wednesday.
Miami Dolphins Fans Irate with QB Tua Tagovailoa’s Fumble Explanation
According to Miami Dolphins reporter for ESPN NFL Nation Marcel Louis Jacques:
Tua on the mishandled snap that led to a safety vs. the Cardinals:
“It wasn’t Brew’s best, but it wasn’t my best either …
“I’d like to see a lot of other people go back there and try to catch that ball too… It’s not as easy as what it looked like. Sitting down on your couch eating chips.”
Midway through the third quarter and with the Miami Dolphins on their own 13-yard line, center Aaron Brewer snapped the football high to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had set his sights back at the offensive lineman just a second ago. The ball bounced off Tagovailoa’s fingertips, flying back into the endzone. To potentially seize the football or avoid a defensive touchdown, Tagovailoa flailed at the ball, hitting it out of the endzone for an Arizona Cardinals‘ safety, pushing the score to 20-12.
With Miami punting following the safety, Arizona turned in a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown drive spanning four minutes. The eight-point swing played heavily in the Miami loss, with Arizona emerging victorious 28-27. Following Tagovailoa’s explanation of the mishap on Wednesday, Miami Dolphins devotees did not respond kindly to the signal-callers subtle shot at the fans while also putting some blame on center Aaron Brewer:
We’re getting into early onset AB territory.

Actually beyond annoying when athletes do this.
Of course I couldn't, I'd like to see you do what I do on a day to day basis. We have different jobs that we've both trained most of our lives for.

Bro is a professional QB and is mad he can't even do his own job correctly.
— Shaun (@SEvansDFS) October 30, 2024
This is CTE speaking. Tua is in bad shape.

He’s being paid a quarter of a billion dollars to do it correctly, how’s that for perspective?
— Pete (@Pete_Martuneac) October 30, 2024
Lost me as a fan today, that's for sure. Hope we cut him before March 1st.
