On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins resolved the problem of their running back depth by signing two long-time veteran free agents, JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson Jr. This action follows the leg surgery of second-year player Jaylen Wright, which is likely to leave the player out until at least mid-September.

Veterans Bring Experience to the Dolphins
JaMycal Hasty has been recently released by the New England Patriots, and he has played with the Dolphins after short stints with the Jaguars and 49ers earlier in his career. Hasty is a multi-purpose backfield receiver and a runner with a proven track record, and his presence in the backfield gives the Dolphins a reliable veteran presence as Wright recuperates.
Jeff Wilson Jr. has also been a household name in Miami and has played with the Dolphins as late as 2024. Having experience in the offense run by Mike McDaniel and being efficient in short-yardage scenarios, Wilson can come in at any point of the game to play early in the downs or in the passing game.

Miami’s Backfield Outlook
Having De’Von Achane (calf) back in time for Week 1, the Dolphins now have a strong and versatile backfield before the regular season. Ollie Gordon, a rookie in the 6th round, will have a greater role to fill in the absence of Wright, although Hasty and Wilson are veterans, which will guarantee that Miami does not have to hurry Wright back or gamble with depth.
