The Miami Dolphins were expected to address the quarterback position after seeing Tua Tagovailoa suffer his third concussion in 24 months. It was reported by Tom Pelissero that the team is signing former Pro Bowl quarterback Snoop Huntley off of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
Do not expect Huntley to get the start in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, but he could eventually become the starting quarterback while Tagovailoa remains in concussion protocol. Snoop Huntley has played in 20 games (nine starts) and boasts a 3-6 record while going 221-of-342 (64.6%) for 1,957 yards with eight passing touchdowns to seven interceptions while also rushing in three more touchdowns.
Huntley was signed by the Cleveland Browns and competed for a roster spot during training camp and preseason. However, he would be cut and returned to the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
Snoop Huntley is in his fifth season and made the Pro Bowl off of his 2022 season as an alternate. It will be interesting to see how he does with the Dolphins and if he could challenge Skylar Thompson for the backup quarterback spot in the future and potentially get a start in the coming weeks.
What does Snoop Huntley do for the Miami Dolphins this season?
The Miami Dolphins are now sitting in last place in the AFC East with a 1-1 record after losing against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 on Thursday Night Football. Having a quarterback room of Skylar Thompson and Snoop Huntley does not provide much fear into the opposing defense, but it certainly creates a bit of depth in the quarterback room.
At least for Week 3, this gives the Miami Dolphins a competent backup quarterback with experience. It will be intriguing to see if he gets any action right away or if the plan is to stick with Skylar Thompson, a quarterback who is familiar with the Mike McDaniel system, as the starting quarterback right now.
