The Miami Dolphins have an outside cornerback dilemma. In early April, the front office and their elite Pro Bowl and All-Pro Jalen Ramsey have mutually agreed to seek a trade. Although a trade has yet to be made, and the 2025 NFL Draft ended yesterday, the Dolphins will likely trade him after June 1st for salary cap reasons.

The Dolphins’ outside cornerback depth is weak, but they selected Jason Marshall Jr. in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Storm Duck, their former undrafted free agent, struggled during his rookie season, giving up a 100.2 passer rating, and has the most starts, excluding Ramsey, with three. GM Chris Grier has expressed frustration and impatience with Cam Smith, their former second-round pick, who has been limited to 21 games and 153 snaps in his first two seasons. Finally, Ethan Bonner was limited to five games and 16 snaps in 2024.
Because of this, the Dolphins could bolster the position in free agency by adding a veteran defender.
Miami Dolphins eye star cornerback

According to Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have shown interest and have been in contact with former Buffalo Bills star Rasul Douglas. Douglas, who turns 30 in August, enters his ninth year in the NFL. He is one of the top cornerbacks available in free agency.

He spent the last 1.5 years with their archrivals

The Buffalo Bills acquired Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers during the 2023 NFL Trade Deadline. Douglas has spent the last 1.5 seasons with Buffalo and formed a solid complement to Christian Benford on the outside. He recorded 87 tackles, four interceptions, one pick-six, and 13 pass deflections in 24 regular-season games, along with 18 tackles in four playoff games.
Douglas struggled during the 2024 season, recording the fewest pass deflections since 2018, and for the first time since 2020, failed to register an interception. He recorded 58 tackles and five pass deflections, giving up a 72.9% completion percentage, 518 passing yards, four touchdowns, and a 122.0 passer rating in 15 games. He also posted 16 tackles and allowed a 50% completion percentage, 150 yards, one touchdown, and a 123.6 passer rating in three postseason games.
