Winners of four of their previous five games, the Miami Dolphins still have a chance at the final AFC Wild Card spot. Winners of 20 regular season games over the last two seasons, Miami struggled for much of the early part of this year following a horrific head injury to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the previous season’s league leader in passing yards. However, following a slow start in his Week 8 return, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins have scored 30+ points in three of their last four games, with the AFC East club sitting at 6-7 heading into this weekend’s clash with the Houston Texans. Nevertheless, Tagovailoa will be without one of the more accomplished pass-catchers in the contest.
On Friday, the Miami Dolphins waived wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. A three-time Pro Bowler, Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Miami this offseason. Beckham joined the Mike McDaniel-led offense with expectations to compete for a spot alongside fellow receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle but never solidified himself as a consistent weapon for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Following his release, NFL fans put Beckham on blast for his underwhelming short tenure with Miami.
Ex-Miami Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Clowned By Fans
According to the Miami Dolphins on Twitter:
Roster Move | We have waived WR Odell Beckham Jr.
Before their Week 15 tilt on the road against the Houston Texans, the Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after a short nine-game stint with the club. Beckham, a three-time Pro Bowler from 2013 to 2016, has struggled to latch on with a team following his departure from Cleveland in 2021. This season, Beckham posted just nine catches for 55 yards. Last year, he had 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens. His best years came with the New York Giants, catching 390 passes for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns in five seasons.
However, Beckham’s time with the Miami Dolphins had little highlights despite him signing with the club as a potential third receiving option next to Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Instead, sixth-round rookie Malik Washington has earned the most reps in three-receiver sets. With Beckham’s release, fans clowned the receiver via social media:
This is more or less what I thought would happen when he signed. He’s in it for himself. Not a team player.

It's surprising that such a talented player has now become a journeyman in recent years…@AdamSchefter pic.twitter.com/fRI0ANamnm

Steelers fans: no we don’t need this dude, we are doing well
— Cratical (@Cratical) December 13, 2024
I thought he would make more of an impact for us than he did. Not sure why it didn't work out but it didn't work out. Would be wild if KC signed him and he caught a TD in the Super Bowl. (Not that I expect that to happen.)

9 catches? bro’s been more of a distraction than a receiver this season
