The Miami Dolphins have some of the most notable wide receivers in the NFL. This includes players such as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Odell Beckham Jr. Unfortunately, the Dolphins are starting this year’s training camp without one of those notable wide receivers. That is because, earlier today, one of these wide receivers was put on the PUP list.
Odell Beckham Jr. Placed on PUP List
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Odell Beckham Jr. has been placed on the Dolphins’ PUP list as training camp begins. That means it is not likely that we see Beckham on the field for a while. However, Pelissero did note some good news along with this update. That good news is the fact that Beckham is only working through a minor injury. As a result, he is not expected to be on the Dolphins’ PUP list for long.
New Start for Odell Beckham Jr.
Odell Beckham Jr. has been in the NFL since 2014. He became a star while he was on his rookie contract with the New York Giants. Then, he was eventually traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and traded again to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
Despite winning a Super Bowl with the Rams in the latter half of that season, Beckham has largely been irrelevant in the NFL since then. He did not play a snap throughout the 2022 season. Then, he had a season to forget with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. In 14 games, Beckham had just 565 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.
With that in mind, Beckham is entering his 10th active season in the NFL. If he does not make it work with the Dolphins, one could argue his NFL career may come to an end.
Miami Dolphins Moving Forward
As mentioned above, this is unlikely to be a long-term problem for the Dolphins. The bigger challenge is going to be finding the appropriate role for Beckham to have on this roster.
Unlike Beckham’s younger days, he is far from the star wide receiver on this team. Players such as Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will likely take the majority of the targets that would typically go to Beckham. Both have found major success in Miami, particularly under head coach Mike McDaniel. Now, Odell Beckham Jr. has the chance to revitalize his career under this same system.
