The NFL and Miami Dolphins lost a true legend on Sunday, hitting the Miami franchise hard. The franchise paid tribute to their iconic running back Mercury Morris who passed on Sunday.
Miami Dolphins Mourn Legend Mercury Morris
The Dolphins legend passed away at 77 years old, and his family shared the tough news with the fans and team. Morris was a three time Pro Bowler and a two-time Super Bowl champion for Miami. He was fundamental in the undefeated season for Miami, on what is still the greatest team of all time.
The franchise and the NFL as a whole are mourning the legend on Sunday:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene “Mercury” Morris, legendary Miami Dolphins running back and cherished member of the NFL family, at the age of 77,” his family announced.
“Beyond the field, Mercury was a dedicated father, a loving brother, a loyal friend, and a pillar in the community. His presence extended far beyond football, as he touched the lives of many throughout his time in Miami.”
The Miami Dolphins paid tribute to one of their all-time icons on social media:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolphins great Mercury Morris,” they announced.
Raheem Mostert, the team running back, added: “Rest in paradise to a true legend Mercury Morris! It was an honor getting to know you as a player and person.”
