Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a great first game of the 2024 NFL regular season on Sunday. In their 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hill had seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, most of the talk surrounding the game on Sunday has little do with what he did on the field and what happened outside of the stadium before kickoff.

As fans are aware, Hill was arrested outside Hard Rock Stadium for a traffic violation. What is more, police accuse him of being argumentative and uncooperative, hence why he was placed under arrest.
The incident has many fans calling for police reform, especially after the bodycam footage released by the Miami Dade Police Department showed how violently Hill was treated by the officers. Others, however, believe that Hill should have been more cooperative with police.
The Citations Issued to Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill Were Released to the Public
From the time that the arrest was made up until Tuesday afternoon, claims were made online that Hill was driving at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. However, NFL insider Tom Pelissero posted the citations Hill was issued, and it turns out that those claims were greatly exaggerated:
Via the Miami-Dade Police Department, here are the citations received by #Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill, whom police estimated was traveling 60 mph.

As one can see from the citations, Hill was not even officially clocked going a certain speed. Officers listed his infraction as going “an estimated 60 miles per hour.”
He was also written a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt.
Fans were not thrilled that the situation escalated to the point that it did, considering the fact that Hill was not going faster than a lot of other drivers do.
And while everyone breaking that particular traffic law does not necessarily excuse Hill, it does make one wonder why Hill was the one pulled over.
That sure ain’t 100 mph. Wonder if all these people aren’t here we’ll take it back. 😂

So those 100 MPH tweets were just lies. SMH

Those tickets will be easy to beat (he “saw” him speeding and saw no seatbelt through dark tint at the same time?), which should then lead to a notice of intent to sue under Florida state law and preparation for a federal civil rights lawsuit under federal law.

Wow “careless driving” means they didn’t even have him on radar. In NY that’s equivalent to “reckless driving”
Insane how he was manhandled twice. This coming from a retired LEO in NY— AnalysisOfACrimeWithCD (@AOACwithCD) September 10, 2024
60 in a 40…. And people were saying 100-120mph 😂

Whether or Hill will actually have to pay the fines is a minimal question given the circumstances. There is already an internal investigation into the officers’ actions, and one of them has already been placed on administrative leave.
