The Miami Dolphins will take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon for their Week Three matchup. Currently, 1-1, the Dolphins are attempting to bounce back from their 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week Two. As fans are well aware, they will try to do so without the services of their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
During their blowout loss to the Bills, Tagovailoa rushed for a first down and lowered his head into Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin. As a result, he suffered a concussion and, based on what his arms did as he lay on the ground, lost consciousness.
This concussion was similar to the two that Tagovailoa suffered in a short span during the 2022 NFL season.
The Future Is Uncertain for Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa
Earlier this week, the Dolphins made the decision to place Tagovailoa in injured reserve. This means that he will miss the next four games at a minimum. Skyler Thompson will be the starting quarterback in his absence.
Following this latest concussion, many former players and coaches shared their opinions on Tagovailoa’s future. Many of them believe he should retire.
According to reports, though, Tagovailoa has no plans on retiring at this time.
Miami also signed two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley to serve as Thompson’s backup.
Despite Tagovailoa’s stance that he will not retire, there is no guarantee when he will be able to play again. In order for him to take the field this season or any time in the future, he will need to be cleared by team doctors.
The Miami Dolphins Were Named as a Trade Destination for Carolina Panthers Quarterback Bryce Young
With the future of the quarterback position in Miami far from certain, there have been a plethora of trade rumors linking several players around the NFL to the Dolphins. In his latest article on ESPN, NFL analyst Dan Graziano wrote that Miami could be a potential trade destination for former first overall pick Bryce Young, who was benched by the Carolina Panthers this week:
” It’s difficult to predict Tua Tagovailoa’s future in the wake of his third diagnosed concussion. But there is uncertainty in the short term and long term. Coach Mike McDaniel could potentially view Young as a player who could thrive in his quick-release offense.”
Young was a disappointment as a rookie last season, completing just 59.8% of his passes for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 73.7 passer rating.
He has not been any better this season, completing 55.4% of his passes for 245 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 44.7 passer rating in the Panthers’ first two games.
Andy Dalton is taking over as the starting quarterback for Carolina for now. But if Young wants a trade or the Panthers no longer feel like they can develop him, the Dolphins could be a good landing spot.
