The Miami Dolphins are amid a nightmare season. Another concussion suffered by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, untimely turnovers, and a multitude of one-score losses, and Miami is 2-6 after the first Sunday in November. On Sunday, the Dolphins visited conference power Buffalo, with the Bills riding a three-game winning streak and sitting atop the AFC East. However, the Mike McDaniel-led Miami Dolphins fought tooth and nail, going as far as tying the game, just for a brutal, unnecessary roughness call on safety Jordan Poyer to set up a walk-off 61-yard field goal from Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass.
With the loss, Miami has six losses, the same amount they suffered during the 2024 regular season. Last weekend, McDaniel took a shot at his team, claiming “they got what they deserved” following a disastrous performance in a loss against the Arizona Cardinals (also another walk-off field goal loss). Following Sunday’s loss, McDaniel took a more somber approach, expressing the emotional toll the team suffered from a narrow loss on the road against Buffalo.
Miami Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel Hurting Following Tough Divisional Loss
According to Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel postgame through the Twitter account FinsXtra:
Mike McDaniel on today’s loss: “We really had a lot to play for, and guys wanted this one bad, so this will hurt, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s a bad thing in the big picture, it just depends on what you do with it. The guys are motivated.” (@MiamiDolphins) #GoFins
The severity of Sunday’s loss against the Buffalo Bills is not lost on Miami Dolphins leadman Mike McDaniel. The bench boss emphasized in the postgame how much momentum was riding on his team’s game result against a divisional opponent on the road, only for Miami to lose on a walk-off 61-yard field goal. McDaniel also believes that despite the heartbreaking result, the Dolphins can propel themselves forward by using the loss as momentum.
In his second back game from a concussion, Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa went 25-of-28 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Star running back De’Von Achane also continued his stellar performance when playing alongside Tagovailoa, tallying 20 touches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. However, the defense struggled late, with Buffalo scoring in each of their second-half drives. On their final defensive drive, Miami nearly forced a punt. Still, an unnecessary roughness penalty on safety Jordan Poyer led to an automatic first down and the eventual game-ending field goal. Poyer played with the Bills from 2017 to 2023, earning All-Pro honors once.
