After July 15th players with the franchise tags will no longer be able to sign long term deals with their current teams. Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki who signed his franchise tender in March for $10.9 million is among those players. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that Gesicki and the team “have not really engaged” in contract talks.
When asked about the situation back in April, he commented , “I am absolutely open to negotiation, but it is not up to me……. If they reach out, my agent will be listening.”
Since the 2020-21 season, the Penn State alumni has averaged 63 receptions, 741 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns while with the Dolphins. He was able to achieve those numbers despite being part of one of the worst offenses in the league. Durham Smythe, Adam Shaheem, and Hunter Long are the other tight ends on team. In this new high speed explosive offense, Mike Gesicki could find himself in the perfect situation to earn a big payday in 2023.
