Injuries have plagued the Miami Dolphins’ secondary throughout the offseason. Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu opened training camp on the NFI list with an undisclosed injury and has yet to practice, while cornerback Artie Burns Jr. suffered a season-ending ACL tear on the first day of camp. Safety Ashtyn Davis sustained a lower-leg injury on Tuesday, was spotted using crutches and a walking boot, and will miss time.
The Dolphins are also waiting on their top cornerback’s diagnosis.
Miami Dolphins’ top CB went down with an injury on Saturday

Kader Kohou exited Saturday’s practice with an apparent knee injury during 1-on-1 drills and has yet to participate this week. He underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. The Dolphins cannot afford another injury to their secondary, especially with Kohou set to serve as their top outside cornerback due to the addition of Mike Hilton.
Kader Kohou walked by our set a couple times after practice under his own power to get further evaluation. Walked around without much limitation — maybe a slight limp — no visible boot/wraps. https://t.co/AVF81OAIvQ

Miami Dolphins lose key defensive starter for the 2025 season

During Wednesday’s press conference, Mike McDaniel provided an injury update on Kader Kohou, as reported by Adam Schefter. The top cornerback suffered a season-ending partial ACL tear that will require surgery. Kohou’s injury is a huge loss for an already thin secondary and cornerback position that will not have one of their ideal starters returning in 2025.

Who will replace him?

With Kader Kohou out for the season and Mike Hilton taking over slot duties, the team will have three players compete for the starting outside cornerback job alongside Jack Jones. These players include 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith, 2024 undrafted free agent Storm Duck, and fifth-round pick Jason Marshall Jr., who will battle throughout the summer. The Dolphins could also add a veteran in free agency, including Asante Samuel Jr., Stephon Gilmore, Rasul Douglas, Caleb Farley, C.J. Henderson, and Michael Davis.
