Miami Dolphins: Fans Irate After Offensive Coordinator Demands More Touches For Journey-Man TE – Week 7

The Miami Dolphins are fresh off a bye week as they continue their 14-day preparation for their tilt against the Indianapolis Colts. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on the mend, Miami continues to stretch its playbook to get the ball to playmakers Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane. However, offensive coordinator Frank Smith believes the offense needs to develop plays for their trio of stars and a journeyman tight end in his eighth NFL season.

Smith, the offensive play-caller for the Miami Dolphins since 2022, spoke to the media on Thursday, sharing his intent to get tight end Jonnu Smith more involved with the offense going forward. Last season, Miami led the league in offensive yards while finishing second in points scored. Despite Frank Smith’s resume, fans are irate with his handling of the offense sans Tagovailoa.

According to Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald:

Dolphins OC Frank Smith said the team went into the bye week trying to figure out how to get playmakers like Jonnu Smith more involved.

Per offensive coordinator Frank Smith, the Miami Dolphins will attempt to get more production from tight end Jonnu Smith. However, he will need to do so without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The starting signal-caller remains on the mend as he recovers from a concussion, with Miami slated to start Tyler Huntley on Sunday. The 26-year-old has struggled in limited action, failing to throw a touchdown in his two games.

Meanwhile, Smith has 14 catches for 140 yards and no touchdowns in five games. Smith is fresh off his most productive year, recording 50 receptions for 582 yards and three touchdowns in his lone year with the Atlanta Falcons. The FIU product is yet to match his career-high of eight touchdown receptions in 2020. Nevertheless, Miami Dolphins fans believe their offensive coordinator should focus on getting the ball to their established stars, with Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, and De’Von Achane failing to produce their usual output since the season opener:
