The Miami Marlins had a special guest on Monday night during their series opener at loanDepot Park in Miami against the visiting (and historically bad) Colorado Rockies. Before that game started, Miami Dolphins star tight end Jonnu Smith threw the ceremonial first pitch and even got a shoutout from the Marlins on social media.
“Nu here, but not new here 😎,” the Marlins’ read the Marlins’ post that also included a video of Smith throwing a pitch.
Smith responded to that post with the following message: “Minus the sinker in the dirt. Amazing night 😎.”
Smith’s pitch didn’t quite make it to home plate, but at least it wasn’t as embarrassing as the other first pitches done before by other personalities.

Trade rumors about Miami Dolphins’ Smith continue to swirl

Smith has been at the center of trade rumors involving the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the same time, there are also reporters saying that Smith prefers to stay put in Miami and that the Steelers have already dropped the idea of pursuing the veteran tight end.
Smith inked a two-year contract worth $8.4 million with the Dolphins in 2024 and went on to have a solid campaign. He had a career-high 884 receiving yards with eight touchdowns on 88 catches (a franchise record) and 111 targets in 17 games for Miami, while also earning his first-ever Pro Bowl nod.
At the moment, the Dolphins have Julian Hill, Pharaoh Brown and Tanner Conner on the TE depth chart behind Smith, who played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and spent two years with the New England Patriots before a one-year tenure with the Atlanta Falcons.
