The Miami Dolphins ended up finishing the 2024 NFL season with an 8-9 record. They missed the playoffs with that record and are entering the offseason looking to make some moves to get back on track.
One of the biggest issues for the Dolphins last season was Tua Tagovailoa only playing in 11 games. He has become injury prone over the last couple of years, which has put Miami in a tough position.
Looking into free agency, Miami should consider bringing in a better backup quarterback to protect themselves against Tagovailoa missing more time.
All of that being said, the Dolphins have been linked to an interesting move during free agency.

Should Miami actually want to make an addition at the quarterback position, there is one name that could make an awful lot of sense for them.
CBS Sports analyst Tyler Sullivan has suggested that Washington Commanders free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota could be a potential target.
“That should light a fire under the front office to better solidify that backup position going forward, and Mariota makes a lot of sense. The 31-year-old has 74 career starts under his belt and should be able to keep a team afloat in a pinch.”
Mariota is coming off of a 2024 season with the Commanders that saw him play very sparingly. He played in three total games, completing 77.3% of his pass attempts for 364 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also chipped in 92 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Obviously, the goal for the Dolphins would be that Mariota doesn’t see the field. But, if Tagovailoa did go down with an injury, the veteran quarterback would be more than capable of stepping in and starting.
Expect to see Miami consider the option of exploring the quarterback market for a better backup.
