The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have been engaged in discussions about a potential contract extension for quite some time. While the two sides have been discussing the matter, nothing has gotten done or even reportedly gotten close to being done.
Looking at the future, it’s very clear that Tagovailoa is the long-term franchise quarterback for the Dolphins. Or at least, he should be. He has given the team no reason to want to move on from him.
However, the franchise may secretly feel different. That seems to be what their actions are stating.
One former NFL star issued a stern warning to the Miami Dolphins about not getting a new deal done with Tagovailoa.
Miami Dolphins Are Playing Dangerous Game With Tua Tagovailoa
In a recent quote from former star wide receiver Chad Johnson, he stated that Dolphins are sending a bad message to their star quarterback. He made the comments during a segment of the “Nightcap” show with Shannon Sharpe.
“For Dolphins to even be playing this game, and haven’t come to a deal yet, I don’t understand what the issue is. What message are they sending Tua, for him to be having to wait?”

Tagovailoa has put together some big-time production for the Dolphins. He appears to be a legitimate star in the making and has a ton of weapons surrounding him that will help him be even better in 2024.
During the 2023 season with the Miami Dolphins, Tagovailoa ended up completing 69.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Granted, those numbers don’t scream “MVP” to anyone. The 14 interceptions are a bit high and with two weapons like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle you’d like to see the touchdown totals a bit higher. Despite that fact, he put up big numbers and led his team to the playoffs.
If the Miami Dolphins mess around and end up giving Tagovailoa reason to doubt them, a nasty split could occur down the road. Miami needs to choose now. Do they believe in Tagovailoa to be their franchise quarterback moving forward or not?
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening down the road between the two sides. A contract extension seems likely, but we’ll just have to wait and find out.
