Miami Dolphins: Suddenly Cut Recent Acquisition

The Miami Dolphins addressed the cornerback position during training camp following the season-ending injuries to Kader Kohou and Artie Burns. The team brought in former Cincinnati Bengals’ star veteran nickel Mike Hilton in late July. Despite having ample starting experience and being listed at the top of the depth chart, Hilton seldom saw first-team reps with the starting defense.

According to Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have released Mike Hilton, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. Since he is a vested vet, he will not be subject to the waiver wire and is free to sign with any team. Hilton should be one of the most sought-after nickel cornerbacks available and shouldn’t have to wait long.

Who starts at nickel?

Miami Dolphins, Jason Marshall Jr.
Detroit Lions running back Sione Vaki (33) is tackled by Miami Dolphins cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. (33) during the first quarter of the preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit, Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025.

Jason Marshall Jr. is expected to handle nickel duties in his rookie season. After initially serving as the third-string outside cornerback to open training camp, the fifth-round pick moved to the inside a few weeks ago and has not looked back. Marshall has impressed over the past ten days of camp and the preseason, receiving first-team reps, essentially saving his job.
