The Vanderbilt Commodores are now on a winning streak against the Auburn Tigers, and everyone in college football has let the Tigers know.
While the Commodores and Tigers do not have the most heated of pasts, the rivals do not like each other one bit. Some recent recruiting dramatics led to multiple Commodores players calling out the Auburn Tigers staff, players, and fans. Both lineman Steven Hubbard and linebacker Bryan Longwell have been in the thick of it for the Vanderbilt Commodores.
College football has become a sport where promises from coaches and sometimes even players are often broken. Word does not mean as much as it once did, and more specifically coaches are much more willing to go back on their word nowadays.
Both Hubbard and Longwell are individuals who experienced this, and both happened to experience this with the same staff. Hubbard was vocal after the game, yelling from the middle of the field at opposing Auburn Tigers players heading into the locker room. Longwell, however, took to social media to post an image that contained “receipts” of a lie he caught a coach for Auburn in.
Merry Christmas!!🎁 pic.twitter.com/wiIong5UbB
— Bryan Longwell (@bryan_longwell2) November 2, 2024
The exact coach is unknown, but Longwell posted to social media an image of a text conversation with the caption “Merry Christmas!!” . In the message, the unnamed coach texted Longwell back in 2022 during his initial recruitment that he would “not sign” a second linebacker to the class. The Tigers would go on to add four linebackers in the transfer portal, all of whom competed for playing time.
College Football World Reacts to Bryan Longwell, Vanderbilt Commodores Taunts Against Auburn
It is safe to say that Longwell did not take this lightly, and would eventually go on to stay in his home state with Vanderbilt. Along with doing so, the linebacker clearly kept a grudge as the message was something that most people would seemingly delete. Instead, Longwell used it as motivation and had one of his better performances of the season.
The college football world and the Vanderbilt Commodores fans quickly took the post that Longwell had made in stride. The responses ranged from fans being in support of Longwell and his use of the message as motivation, to others clearing the air regarding the situation.
Merry christmas 🎄

Six in the morning on Christmas. Hugh Freeze is a small, petty, cruel man and a bad, terrible football coach
