Memphis Showboats Schedule Released
Finally, we know the full schedule for all the USFL teams. Specifically, for the Memphis Showboats, the only football team that matters, or will ever matter, for the fine professional football fans of the Memphis area. Taking to the field for the first time since the year of our Lord Nineteen-hundred and eighty-five. (Yeah, I said it.)
The race is on 🔥🚤

Showboats Schedule Released (April)
The Memphis Showboats open at home on April 15. When gametime rolls in at 4:30, The Philadelphia Stars will be the first team to compete on the newly upgraded turf field at Simmons Bank Memorial Stadium. The Stars made headlines with signing Montana WR Samuel Akem, and should be a tough opening challenge.
Next week on April 22 the Memphis Showboats travel to the Birmingham Stallions. This game will be an early away game against the USFL defending champs. Birmingham is an early betting favorite to repeat.
There’s a saying, “If you’re going to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best!” The Showboats will have an early-season opportunity to show their worth.
The third week on April 29 the game is Memphis Showboats at the Houston Gamblers. Since Houston plays its home games at the Memphis hub, both teams will have an even homefield advantage. Houston had a disappointing 3-7 season in 2022 but hired former Texas A&M Coach Kevin Sumlin to help right the ship.
Showboats Schedule Released (May)
On May 6 the Showboats travel to the remade Ford Field to battle the Michigan Panthers. Michigan, in a surprise move, accepted the resignation of Jeff Fisher, and will be led by new coach Mike Nolan. Michigan plays a lot of home games in a row and hope to gain some momentum recovering from a 2022 2-8 season.
May 14 has the Showboats traveling to take on the New Orleans Breakers. The Breakers hope to continue their strong performance from last year, finishing 6-4 and 2nd in the USFL South. The Breakers play at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, AL. The new coach for the Breakers is John DeFilippo, who was the QB coach the last time Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl.
May 20 Pittsburgh Maulers visit a Memphis Showboats team as the season inches toward a midpoint. Pittsburgh has the longest odds to win the USFL championship this year. The Showboats, playing at home, may be the biggest favorite to win of any game they play this year. Of course, rosters can change and injuries can change that.
May 28 Houston at Memphis in a rematch of Week 3. Interesting situation as the home hub for each is Memphis Simmons Bank Stadium. Should be well-matched as each is projected middle-of-the-pack this year, though the Showboats signed Cole Kelley January 25 to shake up the QB room (prospective starter).
Showboats Schedule Released (June)
June 4 Memphis Showboats travel to play the New Jersey Generals. The Generals play at the Canton Hall of Fame Stadium. Since the Championship game will also be played in Canton here, perhaps the Showboats will feel doubly motivated to win.
June 10 Memphis Showboats will entertain the New Orleans Breakers. Just down the road (and the Mississippi) from Memphis, they shouldn’t get entertained too much. Memphis (with their AWFUL college performances against N.O.’s Tulane) might feel a little municipal payback is in order. Or maybe just take care of business against a probably slightly-more-talented Breaker’s squad.
June 17 Birmingham Stallions, the 2022 USFL league champions, to finish the year. Could be critical. If the New Orleans Breakers don’t overplay predictions, this could be for USFL South-winning club. At the tail end of the season, and with injuries, who knows who will be the better team at this time.
