Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback’s retirement may come sooner than expected according to a recent post from his wife, Kelly Stafford. Kelly shared a reel on her Instagram displaying a collage of pictures of her husband with herself and their kids during this NFL offseason. Kelly also wrote in her post that she is grateful for the offseason and also wants to savor every bit of the year since these seasons may come to an end soon.

Stafford was originally expected to retire after the previous NFL season. However, fans were delighted to know that the quarterback had signed a two-year deal with the Rams. Still, those who have been closely following the 37-year-old quarterback’s NFL career know only too well that his retirement date has simply been pushed for a little later.
“Am always grateful for an off-season with you, while always looking forward to another football season. Soon these seasons won’t exist, so not taking any of it for granted.” Kelly Stafford wrote in her post, showing her offseason memories with Matthew Stafford and their four daughters.
“So if he wants to be done, I’m going to fully support it. I’m going to be excited about it.” Kelly Stafford said in an earlier podcast episode in January about Matthew Stafford’s retirement.

Matthew Stafford has only played for two teams in his entire NFL season – the Detroit Lions and now the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford managed to chalk up 20 touchdowns for the team in the previous season. However, his performance as of late has not been so great to even plunk his name on the top QBs list. Stafford will be eager to redeem his reputation and churn out stronger stats in the upcoming season with the Rams.

Matthew Stafford Struggles With Back Issues At Start Of Training Camp
Meanwhile, it looks like Matthew Stafford is dealing with injury woes even before the 2025 NFL season can kick off. Stafford has taken a backseat in the ongoing training camp as a result of ‘back soreness’ and is instead working on an alternative schedule which allows him to train despite his injured back.

Stafford has indeed struggled with his back in the past, and head coach, Sean McVay does not seem too concerned about it. McVay spoke to reporters, remarking that the veteran quarterback definitely feels good and the back soreness is “not anything that’s necessarily new”. This upcoming season will be Matthew Stafford’s 17th season in the National Football League and the team seems to be leaning even more heavily on him as they hope to get closer to the Lombardi trophy this time out.
