Incoming Green Bay Packers president/CEO Ed Policy is not ready to offer head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst contract extensions entering the 2025 NFL season, according to Rob Demovsky of espn.com. He will be taking over for Mark Murphy and Green Bay finished with an 11-6 record during the 2024 season and lost in the first-round to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Packers haven’t made the Super Bowl since the 2010 season. There has been questionable coaching by LaFleur and questionable front office decisions by Gutekunst. If Green Bay misses the playoffs in 2025, the new CEO could decide to make a change at head coach and general manager. Also, executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball is also in the equation as well. Policy said,
“All three of them [are] under multi-year contracts. None of them are up at the end of this year. We won’t be doing anything going into this season.”
The 2025 NFL season will be a trail season under Policy for LaFleur and Gutekunst. They better get back to the playoffs and show promise or things could get uncomfortable for them.
Green Bay Packers Fans React To Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst Potentially Being On the Hot Seat

When this news was released, there were a lot of Packers fans who responded on Twitter about LaFleur and Gutekunst not being safe. This is what some Green Bay fans had to say about it on Twitter:
Yes, Matt should be on the hot seat, gute needs to go for thinking Matt lafluer will take this team to the Super Bowl with Jordon love lol

Look #GoPackGo. Both are on the hot seat, as they should be. Love’s rookie deal added no value while on the bench and they got no late career Rings with the league MVP at QB. They somehow traded away Devante and never recovered from the problem that alone caused on the roster.

I hope they fire LaFleur so Bengals can hire him.

Is he an idiot? Packers from top to bottom are a mess.

Non-story. 2 years left on deals, no need to extend until next year, get another year of data to support the decision. Good try stiring the pot by Rob tho, he knows what he’s doing.

Some Packers fans may think this is a non-story, but a new president/CEO coming in may want things different if he doesn’t like what Gutekunst and LaFleur produce out on the field in 2025. A lot of this is going to ride on quarterback Jordan Love’s shoulders.
LaFleur has been the Packers head coach since the 2019 NFL season and has a 67-33 record in the regular season and a 3-5 record in the postseason. If Green Bay were to finish in last place in the NFC North in 2025, there is a great chance that the Packers could clean house and move on from LaFleur and Gutekunst also.
