The Pittsburgh Steelers had a bit of a scare last week as Aaron Rodgers left the game with a wrist injury, which would eventually be revealed to be a left wrist fracture. While it is not on his throwing arm, the injury could still play a massive role in the status of having the future Pro Football Hall of Famer on the field and helping the team try to hold onto the AFC North lead with the back-nine of the season remaining.
Let’s take a dive into the latest reports about his injury and what his status is going forward.
Aaron Rodgers Does Not Need Wrist Surgery

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Aaron Rodgers had further tests on his fractured left wrist on Monday, and it was confirmed that he will not need surgery to repair the injury. Rodgers is reportedly pushing to still play in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears, but doctors still need to clear the 41-year-old quarterback in order to have him under center.
If he is not cleared for Sunday’s game, backup Mason Rudolph would be expected to get the start. Rodgers is having a respectable season as he has completed 192 of 289 (66.4%) of his passes for 1,969 yards with 19 passing touchdowns to seven interceptions.
Mike Tomlin would go on to confirm the report and said he would not know if Rodgers could play until later in the week.
“Really, it’s just about bracing it and securing it for his comfort and safety, and then it’s about how functional he is.”
Rodgers suffered the wrist fracture late in the second quarter on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals and did not return to the game. It will be interesting to see what the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to do with their starting quarterback going forward as they attempt to hold onto the AFC North lead.
