The Arizona Cardinals believe Marvin Harrison Jr. can be a legitimate game-changer, but he was anything but in his first career NFL game.
Harrison Jr., 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, widely viewed as a generational prospect before he was chosen by the Cardinals with the No. 4 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, was held to just one reception for four years in his NFL debut against the Buffalo Bills.
Making matters worse, Harrison Jr. broke wide open past the Bills’ secondary late in Sunday’s contest but Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray never saw him.
Ahead of Week 2, Harrison Jr. vented his frustrations following a disappointing debut.
“I mean, obviously it wasn’t great,” Harrison told reporters, via ESPN. “Definitely wasn’t what I expected, what I wanted to happen, what the team wanted to happen. Obviously, you wanted to come out with a victory and we didn’t do that.”
Can Marvin Harrison Jr. Elevate Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals’ Offense?
Harrison Jr. has the traits and potential to be one of the Cardinals’ most prolific offensive weapons, and quickly develop into one of Murray’s favorite targets.
However, teams are going to do everything they can to slow Harrison and eliminate him from the game plan, as Buffalo did in the opener.
The rookie receiver says he hopes to turn things around and be a catalyst for Arizona’s turnaround in coming weeks.
“That’s why it kind of brought me here is to help the team, help the offense go,” Harrison told reporters. “So, I have to do a better job of that going forward.
“I got to get open and catch the ball. That’s my job as a receiver. That is your job description. That’s what I got to do a better job.”
