The Miami Hurricanes have been one of the top programs in college football in terms of adding talent through the transfer portal. A major reason has been their NIL ability as they have been able to add incredible talents to the program.
During the 2025 ACC Media Days, Miami coach Mario Cristobal discussed how the team has been able to be above board with their NIL and get quality talent on the roster. Let’s take a deeper dive into his comments and what it means for the program going into the 2025 season.
Mario Cristobal Discusses NIL Importance for Miami

“Well, we’ve always been very well established. We’ve always been compliant and we’ve been aggressive in the right kind of way and use it in a formative fashion that benefits our program and our players. … In terms of where they are and the details surrounding that, that’s maybe a question for some other time. But you couldn’t find a more professionally run organization than our collective. ”
Mario Cristobal would also explain how the program has changed and how that drew him to originally signing to be the coach of the Hurricanes.
“To me, Miami did not have the talent and Miami did not recruit to the level that Miami is supposed to recruit. Now you fast forward three yeasr later, Miami is coming off a 10-win season. Now Miami is sixth in the country with double-digit combine invites, with double-digit wins, and with the No. 1 pick overall.
“The steady progres and trajectory is a product of a lot of people, players, coaches, staff members working really hard to get Miami where it needs to be, and one of the biggest reasons, if not the biggest reason, why I chose to leave my place on the West Coast to come back and do Miami the way Miami should be done. That’s what we’ve been doing.”
Miami certainly has improved their roster through the NCAA Transfer Portal and NIL, adding Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck, LSU Tigers wide receiver CJ Daniels, and Texas Longhorns kicker Bert Auburn to name a few players. It will be interesting to see how the Miami Hurricanes do this season with the new additions.
