Ohio State has woken up from its worst nightmare, losing to Michigan for a fourth season. Now, if they don’t win it all, there is a 90% chance that head coach Ryan Day will be fired.
Losing to Michigan in the fashion Ohio State did this past weekend should get anyone fired, but with Day’s recent track record in the matchup, it seems his days in Columbus are over.
When the Buckeyes head coaching job opens up, big names will be mentioned. One of them is Marcus Freeman, current Notre Dame head coach, who played and coached at Ohio State in the mid-2000s.
Freeman is one of the youngest coaches in the sport and has made himself one of the top names after having a great season at Notre Dame this year. Of course, he will be a name that many Buckeye fans want.
The only issue with Freeman is what he said about Ohio State three years ago when he was hired as the head coach at Notre Dame, which rubbed many Buckeyes boosters and fans the wrong way.
Marcus Freeman Comments On Ohio State Could Hurt His Chance At The Head Coaching Job
The 38-year-old head coach wrote a letter to Notre Dame in December of 2021 on The Players Tribune and stated when he was going to commit to a school to play at, it came down to Ohio State and Notre Dame, and he chose to play for the Buckeyes.
Freeman also talked about how he looked at other jobs in the offseason of 2020 after being the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati. He was flying all over the country but decided to take the same role at Notre Dame and stated: ” Thank God I Didn’t Make The Wrong Decision Twice.”
The Fighting Irish head coach made sure to tell everyone that when he committed to play college football in 2004, he made the wrong decision by picking Ohio State over Notre Dame. He didn’t make the same mistake again when other schools wanted him to be their defensive coordinator four years ago.
Now that the Buckeye’s head coaching job seems to be opening up shortly and with Freeman being a name for the job, will his comments about Ohio State three years ago impact the people leading the coaching search and paying his salary?
If Freeman thought going to Ohio State was a mistake 20 years ago, why would he think any differently now? His comments will probably hurt any chance of getting the Buckeyes head coaching job, and he probably wants it since Ohio State is a better job than Notre Dame.

Who says Ohio State is a better job than Notre Dame? The pressure to win there is immense. Ryan Day has one of the best win loss records in all of college football and yet he’s still on the chopping block. Give me Notre Dame any day!
