Malik Washington, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, recently spoke to Miami Herald about his time in the preseason and his experiences connecting with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Washington, who joined the team in the 2024 NFL season after the Dolphins selected him in the sixth round of the draft, feels that he is yet to make a solid impression on the team.
The young wide receiver also admitted feeling that quarterback Tagovailoa does not trust him fully and missed throwing to him despite him being visibly open. Instead of feeling bad about it, Washington remarked that the quarterback does not trust him yet, and that he needs to do more to earn the QB’s faith.

“I think I noticed that right away when I got here. I was getting open a couple of times and he just wasn’t even looking my way and then as we kind of went on, I was like, ‘OK, he needs to trust. He needs to have a relationship. He needs to know that if he puts that ball out there, you’re going to find a way to go get it.’” Malik Washington said to Miami Herald about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Malik Washington managed to chalk up a single touchdown in the preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars over the weekend. The Dolphins ended up winning with an impressive 14-6 final score. The Dolphins have managed an impressive performance this preseason, with their first game ending in a tie, and their second and third games ending in wins.
Malik Washington Feels He Hasn’t Done Much In NFL Yet
In the same interview with the Miami Herald, wide receiver Malik Washington revealed that he still feels he hasn’t achieved much during his time in the NFL. Washington managed a total of 26 receptions in his rookie year and is still expected to do plenty more in the upcoming year.

“I haven’t done anything to necessarily to make it a shoo-in or make it a given. I’m a sixth-round pick and I always remember that.” Malik Washington revealed to the Miami Herald.
The talented wide receiver also admitted that he hoped to do more with each and every moment that he gets to spend in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins. Washington’s performance was also praised by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa himself, who complimented the wide receiver’s “blocking aspect” on Saturday. The quarterback admitted that Washington’s game had considerably improved when compared to the previous season.
