Mac Jones’ Week Four availability has been announced and it isn’t good news. Jones has been ruled out, the Patriots will now turn to veteran QB Brian Hoyer. The 13 year veteran is on his eighth season with the Patriots.
Mac Jones’ injury will keep him sidelined vs Packers
Jones is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and it will keep him sidelined for the week four match-up against the Packers. Losing your starting QB before going against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers is never a good thing for a team. But the Patriots could pull off an upset this week as Jones’ fill-in is more than familiar with the team’s system. Hoyer is a 14 year Veteran, spending now 8 with New England. Though he lost his only regular-season start for the Patriots in 2020, Hoyer played well when called upon in 2021. Nine of eleven for 227 yards and one touchdown shows Hoyer is capable of holding the ship steady. Sunday will give Hoyer his 40th regular-season start of his career.
Is Hoyer the answer?
While Hoyer is the more experience man below Mac Jones on the Depth Chart, many are wondering if he is the right man to fill in for Jones. Bailey Zappe was picked in the fourth round of this year’s draft, and he put up quite impressive numbers last year at Western Kentucky. Throwing for 5,967 yards and 62 touchdowns with a 69% completion rate. Belichick has stated Hoyer is the next man up, but depending on his performance Zappe may get the chance to shine. The Patriots look to even the records this week going into the game 1-2 on the year facing the 2-1 Packers.
What does this mean for Jones’ availability week five?
Fantasy owners shouldn’t worry too much about the possibility of Jones missing week five. Throughout the week Mac Jones was hoping to suit up against the Packers and had a legitimate shot at it. This week should give Jones time to heal enough to be ready week five. It’s been a rough start for Jones, recording five interceptions to his two touchdown and a QB rating of 76.2. Though he is out this week, Patriots fans should breath a sigh of relief. Jones coming off the field after the ankle sprain was a scary sight and many feared he would miss multiple weeks.
