On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Chargers announced they signed a quarterback with XFL and NFL experience. The Chargers needed to add another throwing arm to the roster as starting quarterback Justin Herbert is recovering from an injury in the preseason.
Justin Herbert has a foot injury
As previously discussed on GH, the Chargers announced last Thursday that Herbert is expected to miss the preseason due to a right foot injury:
Hebert is dealing with plantar fascia in his right foot:
“Following yesterday’s practice, Justin Herbert was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. Doctors have recommended approximately two weeks in a boot — followed by a graduated return to play protocol — with the expectation that he will be ready for the start of the regular season”
The Los Angeles Chargers signed Luis Perez
Per a statement by the Chargers on Tuesday, the team signed Luis Perez:
Perez started at quarterback for the Arlington Renegades in 2024, leading the UFL in completions (225), passing yards (2,309) and passing touchdowns (18). In 2023, he spent time in the XFL with the Renegades and the Vegas Vipers, helping the Renegades win the XFL Championship. Perez previously also played in the XFL for the New Jersey Generals, New York Guardians and Los Angeles Wildcats. In addition to his tenure in the UFL and XFL, Perez has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.
The Los Angeles Rams signed Perez as an undrafted rookie in 2018. He’s also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.
