The 2024 college football season is getting ready to kick off in less than a month and the LSU Tigers news may see sophomore cornerback Javien Toviano not on the field. Multiple outlets are reporting that Toviao has been arrested and suspended by the LSU Tigers.
The LSU Tigers officially released a statement that announced a suspension for Javien Toviano:
“The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activites, in accordance with departmental policies. We will not have further comment out of respect for the legal process.”
According to an arrest report, Toviano has been charged with video voyeurism. The report accuses him of hiding a video camera and recording himself having sex with the victim without their consent. The victim said that she was able to locate two videos on his iPad. Authorities wound up finding three videos after executing a search warrant with the videos allegedly being taken between July 5-6, 2024.
The investigators were able to identify both the victim and Toviano in the videos. Toviano would be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and awaits trial.
What does Javien Toviano’s arrest mean for the LSU Tigers?
Javien Toviano’s arrest means a lot for the LSU Tigers and that is not taking away the severity of the alleged incident that took place. Looking at the gridiron aspect of this, the Tigers were weak in the secondary heading into this season and were looking for Toviano to get an increased role on the field.
However, the team now has to operate as he is not with the program as they do not know how long the suspension will last and the ongoing legal issues. Toviano had a decent first year of college football as he had an interception, a pass deflection and a fumble recovery in 2023 and was looking to take that next step.
This will be interesting as coach Brian Kelly is locked in with this roster and will hope some other players can step up in Toviano’s absence.
