The LSU Tigers and Head Coach Brian Kelly are coming off a disappointing 42-13 blowout loss to Alabama, ultimately ending their playoff potential. It’s been a strange season in Death Valley, some weeks the Tigers look like they are one of the top contenders in the country. While others and more of recent look like they don’t belong in the Top 25. The Bayou Bengals are currently sitting at 6-3 on the season, with losses to Alabama and Texas A&M not looking horrendous, but the one glaring loss to USC in week one hasn’t aged well.
Coach Kelly said back in September that a 10-win regular season was the goal. That goal may have worked in Notre Dame, but LSU fans expect to be in contention for a National Championship every single year. Tiger fans have already begun calling for the firing of Kelly, especially after suffering one of the worst blowout losses to Alabama in recent memory. That rivalry game took place in Death Valley, nonetheless.
LSU Takes on Florida Gators

Speaking of blowouts, the Florida Gators suffered a massive blowout loss to the Texas Longhorns last week. Their 49-17 loss to the Longhorns hasn’t stopped them from being only a 3.5-point underdog against SEC opponent LSU. Many analysts around college football believe the Tigers are firmly placed on upset alert heading into the swamp.
The Gators will be starting freshman quarterback DJ Lagway today, in hopes the young signal caller will be able to lead Florida to a bounce back victory and keep them alive for a bowl game. While the Gators strive for a bowl game, LSU fans dread settling for such a thing. This high expectation puts immense pressure on Coach Kelly entering Saturday’s contest.
Brian Kelly Coaching for His Job

Already being placed on the hot seat by the LSU faithful, this Saturday could very well be the tipping point for the former Fighting Irish coach. Coach Kelly has made comments leading up to this game that he expects big things for his own quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier. The Tigers signal caller looks to get back on track this week, after throwing five interceptions over the last six quarters of football. Only Georgia’s Carson Beck has more picks on the season.
Kelly would say this about his starting QB, “I’ve spent a lot of time with Nussmeier this week. I think he’s been thoughtful, intentional, he’s taken leadership. I just like the way he’s locked in this week.” The Tigers coach would continue on making a statement, “In my experience when a QB is this locked in, you want to tune in.”
This goes to show that he believes Nussmeier is due for a big performance against one of the worst secondaries in college football. The Gators defense has been one of the worst in the country when it comes to allowing explosive plays. However, if Florida is able to keep the Tigers in line and even go as far as pull off the upset victory. It could be the end of the road for Coach Kelly in Baton Rouge. Though, he is currently the active winningest coach in all of college football, in today’s sports it’s all about what have you done for me lately?
