The LSU Tigers are 6-4 this season after starting 6-1. The Tigers are in the news for all of the wrong reasons right now ahead of the matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores this weekend. Vanderbilt is also 6-4 this season and kickoff will be at 7:45 p.m. ET.
One of the things that has frustrated the LSU Tigers fanbase is that head coach Brian Kelly is in his third season and they have not improved. They lost #1 recruit quarterback Bryce Underwood in the 2025 class to the Michigan Wolverines. Who could replace Brian Kelly as head coach in 2025?
The Number 1 Replacement For the LSU Tigers and Brian Kelly Should Be Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning
If the Tigers were to fire Kelly, the number-one replacement for LSU next season could be Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning. Lanning was rumored last season to leave Oregon for the Alabama Crimson Tide job when Nick Saban retired, but former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer took the job instead.
Lanning stayed with the Ducks and he has them at 11-0 this season and a spot in the BIG10 title game. Oregon has a chance to win it all this season. Dan Lanning should be the top choice to replace Brian Kelly because Lanning can also recruit well. He has recruited well with the Oregon Ducks.
Ole Miss Rebels Head Coach Lane Kiffin
Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin could be another name rumored for the LSU Tigers job if they were to fire Brian Kelly. It would be a very good move for LSU since Kiffin is used to SEC Conference play, but why would Lane Kiffin want to take a job that has more pressure to win compared to a job that doesn’t?
Lane Kiffin has built a nice football program with the Ole Miss Rebels. He was rumored to potentially be in the running for the Florida Gators job had they fired Billy Napier, but Napier is staying for 2025.
Former Head Coach Nick Saban
There is a chance that the LSU Tigers should give former Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban a call if they were to move on from Brian Kelly at the end of the season. Saban would be an interesting choice for the Tigers, but there is a chance he may not want to come out of retirement.
Nick Saban is 73 years old and he is enjoying his retirement. It would be fascinating to see Saban back in the SEC after one year of retirement. The odds of that happening are probably slim, but this is a name that just has to be considered.
