Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry questioned LSU’s decision to raise football ticket prices after the Tigers suffered a 49-25 home loss to third-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. The Republican governor took to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the game to express his concerns about the timing of the price increase, which the LSU Board of Supervisors had approved just one day earlier.
The defeat marked the most points LSU has allowed to a ranked opponent at Tiger Stadium since Georgia scored 52 in 2008. Tigers led 18-14 at halftime before Texas A&M scored 35 unanswered points after the break. The home crowd watched their team collapse in the second half, with many fans heading for the exits well before the final whistle.
The Board of Supervisors that approved the price hikes on Friday will increase season tickets from $25 to $125 based on sections. The athletic department is anticipating the increased prices to bring in over $4.5 million in additional revenue. Board members indicated they were basing their decision on the SEC’s recently released nine-game conference schedule, which would introduce bigger teams into the stadium.
The university sold out its season ticket allotment for the last two seasons, from 66,650 season tickets in 2024 to 71,420 in 2025, according to an LSU spokesperson. The university added 11 of their last 14 home games have been sellouts. Those figures were the reasoning used to justify price increases based on what administrators called market demand.

Less than 24 hours after announcing the price hikes, LSU delivered one of its most disappointing performances in recent memory. Governor Landry’s frustration was evident in his post on X, where he wrote, “I think @LSUsports and the LSU Board of Supervisors needs to rethink their actions to raise ticket prices for next year after tonight’s showing!”

The loss dropped LSU to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in SEC play, marking the Tigers’ fourth defeat in their last nine conference games. Head coach Brian Kelly now faces mounting pressure as his team struggles to meet expectations in his fourth season at the helm.
The athletic department maintained that prices were adjusted based on demand rather than applying a blanket increase across all sections.
While LSU has successfully sold out season tickets in recent years, the question now becomes whether demand will hold steady when fans are asked to pay significantly more for a product that has been inconsistent on the field.
Following Saturday’s defeat, Kelly admitted changes are necessary, informing reporters he would review all from scratch. That review is now going to be done in the light of scathing criticism from the state’s top elected official and fan base growing ever more frustrated with a program that has won just two of its past nine SEC games.
