Collins joins a group of quality prospects that Brian Kelly and his staff have put together for the class of 2023. LSU quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan led the recruiting trail in order to land Collins and it pushed the Tigers to be the favorite to land the Baton Rouge native. Collins spoke on his relationship that he built with Sloan:
“I’ve been talking to him, building a relationship with coach Sloan since Louisiana Tech, so just keep growing that relationship because you never know where he might end up.”
According to On3 Consensus, Collins ranks as the No. 173 overall recruit in the 2023 class. He’s the No. 12 overall quarterback and No. 13 overall prospect in Louisiana.
Collins had a successful junior campaign, where he was named District 5-5A Offensive MVP. He threw for nearly 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
He becomes the 19th overall player to commit to LSU’s class and its first quarterback. Collins becomes the sixth player from Louisiana. Shelton Sampson Jr., Kaleb Jackson, Trey Holly, Tyree Adams and Ashton Stamps make up the in-state players in the 2023 class.
