As LSU is preparing for it’s season opener on Sunday night, the Tigers continue to have success on the recruiting trail. The purple and gold added a major asset to their 2023 recruiting class by adding five-star offensive line commitment, Zalance Heard. Heard chose the Tigers over Nebraska, Baylor, Florida, Florida State and Houston. The relationship that Heard had with Jon Randall Belton, the director of recruiting influenced the five-star offensive lineman to head to Baton Rouge:
“Me and J.R. are really, really close because of where we’re from, and he understands me being from the same area. We’ve built a good relationship, and we’re very close. We probably talk almost every single day. It’s exactly like a (big brother-little brother relationship).”

The 6-foot-5, 300 pound prospect is the sixth prospect out of the state of Louisiana to commit to LSU. There shouldn’t be anymore concerns of Brian Kelly’s capabilities to keep big-time recruits in the state of Louisiana. Kelly now has six of the top 13 players in the state and will continue to add to that number.
Heard becomes the third offensive lineman to commit to LSU in this recruiting cycle. He joins fellow offensive tackles Tyree Adams and Paul Mubenga. According to 247Sports, the Monroe native is the No. 6 offensive tackles. He is also ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the state of Louisiana.
The five-star offensive line commit didn’t move up the Tigers in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. They currently sit at the No. 7 spot, but LSU is gaining ground on Ohio State. The Buckeyes sit at No. 6 in the rankings just ahead of LSU.
