The Notre Dame Fighting Irish made a surprising run to the national championship game in the 2024 college football season before losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the big game. Notre Dame did not have enough talent to prevail over Ohio State in the end.

In 2025, the Irish will have high expectations. They will most likely get back to the college football playoffs. With the playoff seedings set to be different in 2025, there is a chance that Notre Dame could get a first-round bye. There is a very good chance that they will be ranked in the top 5-10 at the start of the 2025 college football season. Where does Notre Dame currently rank in the offseason Top 25 edition?
The Athletic Ranks the Notre Dame Fighting Irish As the Fifth Best Team In College Football Entering 2025

Stewart Mandel of the Athletic updated his top 25 rankings entering the 2025 college football season. He has Notre Dame ranked fifth in his latest Top 25 rankings. Mandel said,
“Familiar faces: RB Jeremiyah Love, WR Jaden Greathouse, LBs Drayk Bowen and Jaylen Sneed, CB Leonard Moore, S Adon Shuler
Notable spring additions: None
Coach Marcus Freeman’s QB competition seemingly resolved itself in the spring as redshirt freshman CJ Carr seized control of the race, prompting veteran Steve Angeli to portal his way to Syracuse. Love is a Heisman contender, TE Eli Raridon is poised for a breakout and former Virginia WR Malachi Fields arrives this summer.”
Love last season for Notre Dame rushed for 1,125 yards on 163 carries and 17 touchdowns, along with averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also caught 28 passes for 237 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per carry.
Riley Leonard was the quarterback for the Irish during the 2024 season. He departed for the NFL. If the Irish are going to win it all this season, Carr is going to have to be an effective quarterback. Love will be one of the best running backs in college football during the 2025 season. Despite not being in a conference for football, it could be one of there biggest advantages for the 2025 college football season.
