The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets went on the road to face the 19th ranked Louisville Cardinals in an ACC showdown on 9/21/2024. Geogia Tech has been a roll this season with big wins against teams like Florida State. Georgia Tech opened the season up with a huge victory over then 10th ranked FSU. The victory shocked the country, and it was a momentum shift for the program. Georgia Tech came into this game with a 3-1 record. Things haven’t always been the best for Georgia Tech on the gridiron, but this season has proved that change is happening.
The Louisville Cardinals were 7-1 in the ACC in 2023, and they had an overall record of 10-4, making a Holiday Bowl appearance. The Cardinals haven’t obtained such dominance in a while but with head Jeff Brohm, they’re making their mark, not only on the ACC but college football as a whole. They emerged in this game as the 19th ranked team in the country.
Georgia Tech
Offensively, Georgia Tech relied heavily on their run game. Their style of offense as it pertains to the run, is equipped with motions, counters, read options and such. They do fairly well when it comes to running the ball. The offense also depended on the athleticism of Quarterback Haynes King. King is a dual threat quarterback who can get it done running and passing.

The Yellow Jackets offensive line struggled a bit containing the Cardinal’s potent defensive line, flushing Haynes King out of the pocket frequently. The Yellow Jackets ran a lot of in breaking routes and some toward the sidelines. All in all, they made big plays throwing the football. Haynes King was 21/32 with 312 yards passing and no touchdowns. He carried the ball for 14 times for 58 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Tech wide receiver Malik Rutherford played exceptionally well having 7 receptions for 113 yards.
Defensively, Georgia Tech’s secondary had complications against Louisville’s wide receivers. On the contrary, they slowed down Louisville’s run game only giving up 60 rushing yards which is impressive.
Louisville Cardinals
Offensively, the Louisville Cardinals saw a lot of production in the pass game. Quartback Tyler Shough put on a show of his own, going for 13/19 for 269 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. The Cardinal wide receivers had an abundance of play making with players like Ja’Corey Brooks having a field day with 4 catches, 125 yards and a touchdown. A major highlight of his was making a reception downfield while being interfered with and still scoring a touchdown. Wide receiver Chris Bell joined in on the action with 2 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Louisville put pressure on the Yellow Jackets quarterback., prompting him to scramble and forcing incompletions. Vs the run, they gave up less than 100 yards, but the Cardinals secondary had issues with Georgia Tech’s receiving core, giving up 312 pass yards.
Louisville remains undefeated with a record of 3-0 while Georgia Tech goes to 3-2 on the season.
