With the way they’re playing right now, it’s going to be a long shot for the New York Giants to actually go far in the playoffs. Rather than waste another season, they can cash in on Darius Slayton’s value to improve the team. As it stands, an NFL analysis has predicted the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers to make a move on the wide receiver.
Slayton has not been able to live up to expectations this season for the Giants. Once a key playmaker for the team, his performance has been disappointing in his sixth year, managing just 10 receptions on 15 targets for 122 yards in the first four games, with no touchdowns to show for it.
Slayton’s struggles are particularly highlighted by his inconsistency. He has recorded three drops in the last two games, including a crucial missed catch during a two-point conversion attempt against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. This drop not only cost the Giants a scoring chance but also contributed to their eventual loss.
As Slayton continues to falter, the Giants may consider giving more opportunities to second-year receiver Jalin Hyatt. With Slayton’s lack of production becoming more evident, it may be time for the Giants to explore other options who could better contribute to their offense.
NFL Analysis Projects Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers to Pursue New York Giants’ Darius Slayton
Slayton’s poor performance can lead the Giants to trade him sooner than later. According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the Rams and Steelers are two teams projected to show interest if that happens.
“However, the 27-year-old has shown enough in the past to draw trade interest. He’s a generally reliable pass-catcher who has surpassed 700 receiving yards in four of the past five seasons.
The Rams might want to consider Slayton, given their ongoing injury woes at wide receiver. The Steelers could also be interested if they’re prepared to ride things out with Justin Fields and want to improve his supporting cast,” Knox wrote.
The Rams are in urgent need of a wide receiver following injuries to Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. With their receiving corps depleted, they should consider trading for Slayton. His experience and talent could provide a much-needed boost to the Rams’ offense as they aim to stay competitive this season. Meanwhile, the Steelers have been encouraged to pursue the WR to add depth and experience to the their receiving corps.
The Giants need reliable receiving options, and if Slayton cannot step up, they might have to trade him to bolster their offense moving forward. In that potential scenario, the Rams and Steelers may come calling for the wide receiver.
