Puka Nacua is now listed on injured reserve while Cooper Kupp is out with an ankle injury for a few weeks. The question for the Rams is who is next in line to be a dependable target, and that answer is Jordan Whittington. We had previously discussed Demarcus Robinson, what happens when you force-feed your star receivers and his potential role moving forward. We’re looking at this a little differently now and focusing on Jordan Whittington.
Whittington, who comes from the Texas Longhorns, was quite promising during the preseason games. Whittington goes down in the UT History books as the 12th-ranked wide receiver in receptions and the 14th-ranked wide receiver in yards. Whittington was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft. He has now been tasked to play a similar position to Puka Nacua. His physical presence and work ethic make him an exciting asset for Matthew Stafford, especially in the middle of the field where the Rams usually operate.
Jordan Whittington This Year’s Puka Nacua?
Jordan Whittington was able to find space over the middle and catch contested balls, along with his willingness to block for the run game is similar to what Nacua did in his breakout year. Obviously, Jordan Whittington may not break new records like Nacua, however, his technical ability and commitment are already getting noticed. With the Rams using 11 personnel offenses more than any other team, Whittington is most likely going to be used in the passing and running game.
As the Rams are struggling with the injuries in their receiving corps, Jordan Whittington’s strong preseason proves that he’s ready to contribute to the team. Although he’s still young, he adds much-needed depth to the position and a hard work ethic fits perfectly with the Rams’ offense. Whether he’s setting a block on the outside or catching balls in the middle of the field, Whittingham is ready for a big role and help the Rams’ offense this year.
