The Los Angeles Rams are in a position where they are going to need to make some tough decisions regarding some significant players on their roster. ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler is reporting that linebacker Ernest Jones has been granted permission to seek a trade. Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract and is coming off an outstanding season where he finished with 145 total tackles, 4.5 sacks and six pass deflections in 15 games.
The Los Angeles Rams do not have a great history of extending players past their rookie contract and have been in discussions for a potential extension with Jones. However, this may be a chance for Ernest Jones to see what is out there and if there are teams willing to give the 24-year-old linebacker major money.
Where is the best landing spot for Ernest Jones?
There is only one place to go with landing spots in the NFL as the Philadelphia Eagles are always aggressive in getting talent to bolster the team. With the addition of rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr., this could be an area where the Eagles look to get more flexible. The Eagles play a 3-4 defense so they are going to need some linebacker help.
The team have seven picks in the first five rounds of the 2025 NFL draft s expect to see a package revolving around a Day 2 pick if the two teams were to agree to a move.
What does this mean for the Los Angeles Rams in 2024?
The Los Angeles Rams are at least seeing what the asking price is for Ernest Jones right now and it could be too rich for their blood. However, it is likely that if a trade is facilitated the team would get a draft pick back, not helping the 2024 roster.
They could be attempting to save money or at least gauge a market for the talented linebacker. It will be interesting to see how things develop going forward.
