The Los Angeles Rams are offically in offseason mode after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is 31 years old and has spent his entire career with one team.
Next year could be a totally different story for the star wide receiver. This season with the Rams, he caught 67 passes for 710 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 10.6 yards per catch. Kupp was targeted 100 times this season.
Los Angeles Rams Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp Could Be Cut During the Offseason
When Kupp spoke to the media, he mentioned that he will be playing football next year but is unsure of the Rams wanting him back or not. Well, it appears as if the Bleacher Report Scouting Department thinks that one of three players on the Los Angeles Rams roster who could be a cap casulty this offseason is the former Eastern Washington Eagles star. They said:
“This is a tough one, because Cooper Kupp has meant so much to the franchise, but the fact is that Kupp is going to be 32 years old next season and hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2021. He’s played 12 or fewer games in each of the last three seasons and clearly isn’t the player he once was.
Releasing him between now and March 16 would clear $7.5 million. Waiting until after that date would only cut that number down to $5 million. In other words, if Kupp is still on the roster by March 16 they’re either going to keep him or try to work out a new deal that includes a pay cut.”
The cap casulty would be $29.8 million. There is no doubt that there would be a market for Kupp if released by the Rams this offseason.
Potential Market
There is no doubt that there would be a market for Cooper Kupp this offseason. Would he just decide to stay in Los Angeles and play for the Los Angeles Chargers? Justin Herbert needs another wide receiver to go along with Ladd McConkey. The Chargers are knocking on the door to be serious contenders.
Another team to potentially watch for is the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore could use some help on the outside for quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Washington Commanders and quarterback Jayden Daniels could use another receiver in the offense to go along with Terry McLaurin. This would be a straight business decision for the Los Angeles Rams if they decided to move on from Kupp this NFL offseason.
