Since the Los Angeles Chargers face off against the Detroit Lions in the Hall of Fame Game on July 31, players reported to training camp earlier than usual. Rookies reported to camp on Saturday, and veterans reported on Wednesday. The Chargers conducted their first day of open practice on Thursday, with a total of 17 sessions open to the public.
All eyes were on whether the front office and their unsigned rookie could agree to a deal sooner rather than later.

As previously discussed on Gridiron Heroics, because Carson Schwesinger and Jayden Higgins became the first two second-round picks in NFL history to sign a fully guaranteed rookie contract, the other 30 picks, including Tre Harris, have yet to sign. Because rookies are not allowed to practice until a deal is done, he did not report for training camp on Saturday. However, since Alfred Collins became the third player to sign a contract on Wednesday, many teams have followed suit, including the Chargers.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Chargers and Tre Harris have agreed to a four-year rookie deal. However, the salary, guaranteed money, and signing bonus have yet to be announced. As a result, Harris has officially ended the contract stalemate and will participate in training camp.

The Chargers’ receiving corps just got weaker earlier today following Mike Williams’ sudden retirement. With Tre Harris expected to start, unless the front office adds a veteran, he will compete against Quentin Johnston for the number-two wide receiver spot. If things work out for Harris, he could finish as the team’s second-leading receiver behind Ladd McConkey.
